HHS will distribute OraSure’s InteliSwab COVID-19 rapid at-home antigen test kits to schools across the nation.

The US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has selected OraSure Technologies to provide COVID-19 testing at schools across the country. The newest gig is part of the $205.2 million procurement contract that OraSure signed with the US Defense Logistics Agency back in September calling for the delivery of 20.6 million InteliSwab COVID-19 Rapid Test kits.

Granted FDA Emergency Use Authorization in June 2021, the InteliSwab kit contains a rapid SARS-CoV-2 antigen test requiring a lower nostril swab with results displayed on the swab stick in 30 minutes. It’s authorized for use in children as young as two years old. Under the HHS program, the agency will provide school districts with InteliSwab kits to be passed along to students, teachers, and staff.

It’s been a good month for OraSure. A few weeks ago, the Bethlehem, Pennsylvania-based company announced that its first quarter revenues increased 16 percent year over year to $67.7 million, easily topping the Wall Street consensus estimate of $60.2 million. Even better was the fact that growth was fueled by a 21 percent increase in non-COVID sales, suggesting a balance that positions OraSure well for Q2 and beyond.
