Q: Why did you choose this career?

A: They say it’s not work if you love what you do.

Q: What are you most excited about regarding your Lab Institute talk?

A: I’ve been in this industry for over 30 years. This is one of those moments when the industry is ready for change. What we are doing is at the forefront of leading that change, and this topic is pertinent to what will help healthcare in the next few decades. It takes courage from leaders in health care to want to take this leap.

Q: What is a typical day at work like for you?

A: Up at 4:00 AM, reading till 5, planning my day till 6, workout from 6 to 8. Then it’s meetings most of the day. I leave the lunch hour for some private time if I can. I love a great restaurant and spending this time with my coworkers, laughing about life and work.

Q: What five words best describe you?

A: Passionate, unstoppable, understanding, energetic, kind-hearted.

Q: What is the biggest lesson learned in your professional career?

A: Be willing to listen and always realize you are rarely the most intelligent person in the room.

Q: Tell us about a great book, movie, song, or TV show you’ve enjoyed recently.

A: The F1: Drive to Survive streaming series. Once you understand the true passion for excellence, it changes your life. F1 is the pinnacle of racing and the pinnacle of engineering and teamwork.

Q: What’s your standard order when you visit a coffee shop?

A: The biggest, greasiest sandwich I can find, and usually a glass of milk, lol. I am one of the weirdos that do not drink coffee (yikes).

Q: What’s your best story to tell at a cocktail party?

A: I love telling stories about fishing hundreds of miles out in the Atlantic for pelagic fish. Once you understand that you are truly insignificant in the ocean’s vastness, it changes your thought process. Plus, everyone loves hearing a good fish story.

Q: What is one important skill you think all leaders should have?

A: Listening skills.

Q: What hobbies or interests do you have outside of your job?

A: I love to restore old things—boats, cars, houses…

A: Always be humble.

Q: What do you hope to accomplish in the next few years in your current position?
